Jenner asks that wrongful death suit be dropped

Georgia residents may be interested to know that lawyers for the former Bruce Jenner have asked that a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him in May 2015 be dropped. The suit stems from a fatal car accident that Jenner was involved in back in February 2015. In a statement, Jenner says that while the accident was a terrible tragedy, he should not be held financially responsible for it. The statement further claims that the plaintiffs, who are two stepchildren of the woman who died in the accident, were financially independent adults who did not need the money.

The accident occurred when an Escalade driven by Jenner crashed into a Lexus being driven by the 69-year-old female victim. After the Lexus was hit, it rolled into oncoming traffic where it was then hit by another vehicle. Jenner was not charged in the accident. Police say that he cooperated fully, which included submitting a blood sample to determine that he was sober when the crash occurred. Police also say that he passed a field sobriety test.

In the event that a person dies in a car accident, the victim's family members may want to consider filing a wrongful death suit against the driver who may have been responsible. Such a case can proceed even if no criminal charges were ever filed against the driver. Damages that are sought in such an action can include funeral and burial expenses as well as other amounts permitted by statute.

Individuals who are considering filing a wrongful death lawsuit may wish to talk to an attorney to see if it is feasible. Doing so may make it possible for the victim's family to determine how to proceed with their case as well as the types and amounts of damages to request.
