    Construction Site And Road Defect Cases

    A settlement was reached with the West Virginia Department of Transportation after the WVDOT failed to properly maintain and replace inadequate guardrails. Raheem Bonds lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail along US Route 52 in McDowell County, West Virginia. Bonds and his passenger, 19-year old Lauren Perdue, we both killed in the crash. The West Virginia State Legislature ultimately resolved the claims brought on behalf of the families by Isenberg & Hewitt’s Melvin L. Hewitt, Jr. and local Charleston, West Virginal counsel Truman Griffith of the Warner Law Group.

    A $2,000,000.00 settlement was reached with the Georgia Department of Transportation on behalf of the families of James Joyner and Jacob Spradley. The vehicle, driven by Spradley, struck a guardrail that the Federal Highway Administration had warned ‘was dangerous’ and was to be ‘systematically replaced’. The guardrail penetrated the front passenger side of the vehicle, killing Spradley and Joyner.

    Police Misconduct

    A $550,000.00 settlement was reached on behalf of Sue Bradley, a long-time mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Ms. Bradley’s US Postal vehicle was rear-ended by a Chattahoochee Hills Police vehicle which was being negligently operated by one of its police officers with a history of vehicular mishaps. Isenberg & Hewitt and the Bullman Law Group combined efforts to not only reach a successful resolution of the matter against the City of Chattahoochee Hills and its police department but were instrumental in assisting Ms. Bradley with her disability claim and early-retirement resolution with the Post Office.

    One incident that evolved into five separate incidents against a metro-Atlanta area local police department were ultimately resolved. The cases, all stemmed from unlawful, lengthy detentions of motorists, illegal vehicular searches and public ‘strip-searches’ of the motorists.

    Suit was filed by Melvin Hewitt of Isenberg & Mark Bullman of the Bullman Law Group on behalf of Alphonso Eleby against Dekalb Police Department stemming from Eleby’s unlawful detention, improper strip search and planting of evidence. After lengthy litigation, a $185,000.00+ settlement was reached on behalf of our client.

    An excessive force lawsuit was filed by Melvin Hewitt of Isenberg & Mark Bullman of the Bullman Law Group on behalf of Willie Jones. Jones had been sitting in his car that was subject to a re-possession order. Police were called by the towing company and, contra to law, police officers injected themselves into a civil situation and forcefully removed Jones from his vehicle causing him injuries. Jones was then arrested, later released and ultimately exonerated of all criminal charges. A $155,000.00 settlement was reached with the city on behalf of Mr. Jones.

    Settlement with reached with the City of Atlanta after Atlanta Police officers injected themselves into a clearly civil matter.

    Four separate cases were brought by Melvin Hewitt of Isenberg & Mark Bullman of the Bullman Law Group on behalf of Alphonso Eleby against a local, greater Atlanta metro police department based on the department’s frequent stopping and unlawfully detaining motorists after the motorists refused to consent to vehicular searches. The motorists were all unlawfully detained while drug-dogs were called to the scene to search the vehicles. None of the victim-motorists’ vehicles were found to contain any drugs.

    Product Liability

    A multi-million-dollar settlement was reached after almost 3-years of litigation in a product defect case brought in a wrongful death suit.

    Motor Vehicle Incidents

    A careless driver exited a local retail parking area, slamming into our client’s vehicle. Suit was filed resulting in a $1,100,000.00 resolution on behalf of our client.

    A careless minor operating the ‘family vehicle’ struck our client’s vehicle, injuring our client’s minor child. After filing suit a $400,000.00 settlement was reached with the family of the negligent driver.

    Miscellaneous Incidents

    A careless dentist failed to properly follow up on obvious issues in our elderly client’s mouth. The dentist’s carelessness resulted in serious medical issues and resulted in a $150,000.00 resolution against the dentist.

    Several students partying on family recreational equipment resulted in injuries by one of the student’s careless operation of the equipment. Fortunately, the mishap resulted in relatively minor injuries. Our client recovered $50,000.00.

    A $30,000,000.00 award was achieved on behalf of the family of a man who was murdered.

    All of the assets of a man convicted of murdering his wife were awarded to his children which included all insurance proceeds, the family business and other assets.
