HEWITT AWARDED AV PREEMINENT RATING

CIVIL JUSTICE FOR CRIME VICTIM SEMINAR

Atlanta Victim's Rights and Premises Liability lawyer Melvin L. Hewitt, Jr., recently hosted a 3rd Civil Justice for Crime Victim Seminar for Victim Advocates, law enforcement officers working with victims, government and private attorneys.  The seminar was held at Georgia State University and provided an in-depth look at the civil justice system and the rights and remedies available to crime victims through the civil justice system.  Mr. Hewitt and Jeff Dion presented the full day seminar.  Mr. Dion, a civil rights lawyer himself whose sister was killed at an apartment complex in Sandy Springs, Georgia in 1982, has championed crime victims' rights for more than two decades and serves as the Director of the National Crime Victim Bar Association as part of the staff of the National Center for Victims of Crime in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Hewitt is an Atlanta-based premises liability attorney who has represented crime victims in Georgia and across the United States.

JESSALYN DORSEY WON THE EVA MURILLO UNSUNG HERO AWARD

CVAC President, Melvin L. Hewitt, Jr. announced that Jessalyn Dorsey, recently appointed CVAC's Executive Director, won the Eva Murillo Unsung Hero Award, a national award which will be presented to Ms. Dorsey on April 10, 2014 in Washington, D.C.  Ms. Dorsey will receive a plaque in her honor from Congressman John Lewis at the Capital.  Since 2006, the Congressional Victims' Rights Caucus has honored outstanding individuals, agencies and collaborative initiatives whose efforts directly benefit victims and survivors of crime, and promote individual and public safety.  The Caucus hosts an Awards Ceremony on Capitol Hill during the week prior to the annual commemoration of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, which is scheduled for the week of April 6 to 12.

GEORGIA COMMUNITY BANKERS GRADUATE

Atlanta Victim Rights and Premises Liability lawyer Melvin L. Hewitt, Jr. recently attended and completed the Georgia Community Bankers Association's 2nd Annual Southeast Bank Security Management Conference.  The curriculum for the conference focused on the role of security officers and techniques to develop and maintain an appropriate security program at a financial institution.  Mr. Hewitt has notably asserted claims and successfully filed lawsuits in Georgia, Nevada and most recently South Carolina for negligence by a financial institution resulting in injuries and death to people during bank robberies and ATM nighttime transactions.

National Crime Victims' Rights Week - April 21-27, 2013

REMINDER!  The 23rd Annual Crime Victims' Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Avenue, Decatur, Georgia 30030 on Sunday April 21 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.  The Service kicks off the beginning of National Crime Victims' Rights Week and is designed to be a healing event for victims and survivors of crime.  During the service names will be read of the murdered loved ones and candles will be lit in their memory.

National Crime Victims' Rights Week - April 21-27, 2013

Since 1981, National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) has challenged the nation to extend its vision of crime victims' rights and services to reach every victim of crime.  Each year, communities across the country celebrate decades of hard-earned progress in securing the rights, resources and  protections that crime victims need to rebuild their lives.
