Man beaten in Dodger Stadium parking lot sues for damages

Georgia baseball fans may be interested to learn that a man who was severely beaten outside Dodger Stadium filed a lawsuit on Sept. 26 against the alleged attackers and the Dodgers baseball team. The man, a geologist, reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury in the attack.

On Oct. 9, 2015, a 29-year-old man and his mother allegedly began taunting the injured man and a group of fans as they were walking through the parking lot after the Mets defeated the Dodgers. The 29-year-old allegedly struck the injured man, causing him to fall on the ground. The accused man and his mother then allegedly began kicking him. This man was eventually taken into custody for the Dodgers Stadium assault in February 2015 and was sentenced to 14 days in jail after pleading guilty to assault causing great bodily injury.

The geologist and his wife claimed that the Dodgers failed to provide enough lighting and security, which could have prevented the assault from occurring. As such, the plaintiffs were seeking unspecified damages due to premises liability, negligent hiring and retention and supervision. Further the wife claimed that she lost the companionship, protection and love from her husband as a result of his injuries. The couple is also seeking damages for battery and emotional distress from the accused man and his mother.

When a person suffers injuries after being assaulted in a poorly lit parking lot or unsafe premises, he or she is at risk for suffering serious injuries that could require medical attention. If the property owner was negligent in ensuring that the premises was safe for visitors due to lack of adequate lighting or security, the injured person may be eligible to seek compensation for damages. A premises liability attorney could assist with filing the lawsuit and gathering evidence that demonstrates negligence on the defendant's part.
