Trampoline parks can be dangerous

Every year in Georgia and around the country, children are injured in accidents involving trampolines. While many of these injuries occur in people's yards, an increasing number are happening in trampoline parks. As they grow in popularity, the trampoline-related injury cases also increase.

According to a 2016 study that was published in the journal Pediatrics, the estimated number of visits to emergency departments because of accidents at indoor trampoline parks grew from 600 in 2010 to nearly 7,000 in 2014. A majority of trampoline injuries still happen at home, however. The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages people from using home trampolines because of the accident and injury risk that is posed by them.

The researchers reported that the injuries that people received at the indoor parks were more serious than those that people received at home. Nine percent of trampoline injuries that happened at indoor trampoline parks required admission to the hospital while 5.2 percent of those that happened at home did. In 2014, indoor trampoline parks accounted for 11 percent of all of the trampoline-related visits to emergency rooms. Fractures and sprains remain as the most common injuries related to trampoline use at both indoor parks and at home.

When people are injured in preventable accidents that were caused by others, they may be able to recover damages by filing personal injury lawsuits. When they are injured in accidents that happen on the premises of others because of dangerous conditions that were not corrected by the owner of the premises, they may also have a valid premises liability case. Attorneys may review the facts of what happened and then offer honest assessments about whether or not the victims should go forward with a legal action.
