Driver turns himself in after fatal hit-and-run in Georgia

A 22-year-old man thought to be responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident in Marietta has reportedly turned himself in to authorities. Three days after the accident, the driver turned himself in to Marietta Police Investigators before being transported to Cobb County Jail. The man is expected to be charged with 2nd degree vehicular homicide and felony hit and run.

A press release from a Marietta Police Public Information Officer offered some details about the fatal accident. According to the report, the accident happened on the morning of Dec. 27 and resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man. The victim was struck while walking along North Marietta Parkway between Wallace Road and Interstate 75. It is unclear whether or not he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased victim's family may be able to seek some financial compensation for their loved one's death by filing a wrongful death claim against the accused driver. Evidence that may help to build their claim may include police testimony confirming the driver's possible admission of guilt. Traffic surveillance footage, eyewitness testimony and police reports may also be relevant evidence to present in court.

Following the death of a loved one, many families find that appearing in court and testifying against the person responsible can be difficult. An attorney may be able to help a family during this difficult time by representing them in court and presenting their case to a judge. The family's attorney may also be able to assist the family in seeking the appropriate damages from the driver at fault.
