Mookie Blaylock facing charges after fatal car crash

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2013 | Wrongful Death

After a fatal car crash in Jonesboro, Mookie Blaylock, a former NBA star, has been charged with driving on a suspended license and failing to stay in his lane. Blaylock may also be facing charges of wrongful death depending on the results of the police investigation which still continues.

The chief of police has stated that they are still considering more serious charges but are interested in discussing the case with Blaylock first. Injuries that Blaylock sustained during the crash has prevented the police from speaking to him about the investigation, but police feel that they cannot determine what might have caused the accident until they speak with him.

Blaylock was allegedly driving an SUV when he crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle which contained a married couple. The husband sustained only light injuries including a broken ankle, but the man’s wife was killed. Blaylock himself was in critical condition initially and taken to Atlanta Medical Center. He is reported to have awakened since the accident.

Blaylock is reportedly facing charges of driving with a suspended license, which may increase his license suspension or lead to jail time depending on the reason for the initial suspension. However, he may also face wrongful death charges depending on what authorities discover during their investigation and whether he was at fault for the accident. An attorney may be able to help Blaylock construct a defense regarding the accident, prove that he was not at fault in the accident, or help him initiate a plea deal that could reduce his charges.
