Halloween hayride accident kills 3, injures others

On Behalf of | Nov 4, 2016 | Wrongful Death

Georgia residents may have heard about a Halloween hayride in Mississippi that turned deadly. The incident happened during the evening hours of Oct. 31 in a small town roughly 75 miles east of Jackson, Miss.

According to the report, a Jeep towing a number of people on a small flatbed trailer was heading westbound on U.S. Highway 80 when another westbound vehicle, a Ford pickup truck, suddenly rear-ended the flatbed. Nine people riding on the flatbed were severely injured in the collision. Of those nine victims, three died at the scene. They included a 33-year-old woman and her two minor daughters.

Medics who responded to the scene rushed the six other victims to hospitals located in Jackson and Meridian. At the time of reporting, all six people were listed in critical condition. However, the truck and Jeep drivers were not injured in the crash. When the report was released, investigators were still working to determine the factors that led to the crash.

The loss of a loved one who suddenly passes away in a traffic accident will undoubtedly weigh heavily on family members. While they are grieving about their loss, they may also experience financial hardships, such as paying for the decedent’s medical expenses and funeral costs.

However, if a motorist caused the crash because of a negligent action, such as speeding or texting while driving, the decedent’s family members might consider speaking with a personal injury law firm about filing a claim for compensation for damages stemming from the accident. An attorney who handles wrongful death suits could analyze the official accident report, witness accounts and surveillance camera footage.
