Purpose of building codes

Construction codes exist in Georgia to ensure that buildings are safe for occupancy and are structurally sound for continued use. The goal is to protect the health, property and life of Georgia residents through the prevention of unsafe construction methods. Cities are able to enforce the stricter building requirements through the use of building permits and construction inspections.

Pursuing a slip-and-fall lawsuit in Georgia

The owners and managers of properties in Georgia have a duty of care to provide a safe environment for visitors. They are expected to take reasonable steps to avoid unsafe conditions, and they may be subject to civil sanctions when preventable injuries occur on the properties under their control. Examples of negligent behavior include lax maintenance practices and failing to address potentially dangerous situations in a timely manner.
