Family alleges gas station contributed to son's wrongful death

Synthetic marijuana is a substance that can cause harm to someone. Sadly, that is one of the ingredients in a product called potpourri that was sold at some gas stations in the Peachtree City, Georgia area. This product claimed the life of one teenager, and his parents are taking a stand against the company that sold the product.

The teen's parents have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against BP and Geo. H. Green Oil, Inc. in connection with their son's death. They allege that if the gas stations hadn't sold the product, their son wouldn't have ingested the chemicals that led to his death. A state medical examiner performed an autopsy on the teen, which lead to the determination that synthetic marijuana was the cause of the boy's death.

The boy died at his parent's home on March 4, 2012. A package of "Mojo Diamond Extreme 100x" was found nearby. The package tested positive for synthetic marijuana. After the boy died, Green Oil discovered that the potpourri was being sold at six of its stores. The lawsuit mentions that the operator of a store contracted by Green Oil sold the synthetic marijuana products to minors, including students from McIntosh High School.

The family claims BP and Green Oil should have known the dangers of the drug. They allege that the companies acted as part of a racketeering and corrupt organization and that they "knowingly participated in the illegal drug market." They are seeking to dissolve Green Oil and BP. They are also seeking punitive damages.

This family has chosen to take a stand against the companies they allege contributed to their son's death. Anyone who has lost a family member because of the negligence of someone else might have the right to do the same. Understanding the process to seek compensation and knowing your rights are vital if you are in a similar situation.
