The danger of escalators

While many products that have been in existence for over a century undergo extensive changes over time, others do not. Escalators are one such product that has not changed much since their introduction in 1892. Perhaps for this reason, they may represent dangerous property, causing numerous injuries to people in Georgia and elsewhere throughout their existence.

Woman sexually assaulted in South Beach hotel

Atlanta residents may be interested in a sexual assault story coming from the southern shores of Florida. Miami Beach police stated that they have identified the man who attacked a female South Beach hotel guest at about 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 6. The 26-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman after entering an elevator in the hotel with her. The man told the victim that he was headed for the same floor. When the doors to the elevator opened, the man grabbed the woman, dragged her to her hotel room and sexually assaulted her. He also robbed the woman, who was visiting from Switzerland.

Dangerous property in stadium fall similar to Georgia deaths

In an incident becoming all too familiar to Atlanta sports fans, a fan died after falling off of a walkway at Candlestick Park in San Francisco during the NFL football game between the 49ers and the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 8. The man fell from a possible dangerous property feature in the elevated walkway. During a recent year in Atlanta, three people have died at the city's stadiums. The latest was a baseball fan who died after falling 85 feet from a fourth-level railing at Turner Field.

The Discovery Channel sued following filmed, broadcast attack

A city like Atlanta, Georgia may have business establishments that do not provide adequate security for patrons. The Discovery Channel's reality show "The Devils Ride" filmed and broadcast a California bar brawl in which a man was seriously injured. The man has filed suit against Discovery Communications seeking payment for medical expenses and lost earnings. He is also pursuing punitive damages for battery, assault, emotional distress, premises liability, negligence and violation of privacy. A security company is also named as a defendant. The plaintiff is claiming that there was not enough security or bar staff to stop the fight.
